Detailed Description
1967 Aero Commander Darter 100
Great aircraft for learning to fly, flight school, pilots of all levels. Lycoming 0-320 has approximately 2066 hrs. New top overhaul approximately four hundred hours ago. All flight logs, logbooks since production. This aircraft has lots of logbook entries, and has had many sparkplug changes, and various other maintenance. As of the last sixteen months, the plane has had corrosion treatment, been borescoped, and will come with a fresh annual. This aircraft has had the oil checked for metal fragments, oil change, magnetos checked, new glass all the way around, new oil lines, and much more. This plane has a brand new paint job all the way around. This paint job was done with jetglo, and the entire aircraft was stripped, and treated with corrosion resistance. All A/D's have been complied with. Door jams have been re-welded. Inner door supports have been fabricated, and inserted by A&P. This aircraft will need two new door panels. The ones in the plane function but are old and worn. Door panels are availble. This aircraft has been thoroughly inspected by Cumberland Avionics, front to rear, and every possible detail has been paid attention to. This aircraft comes with basic avionics, but can be IFR rated with upgrades to avionics. Aero Commander's have a welded steel support frame around the fuselage. It also has a heavier undercarriage than a Skyhawk 172 for beginning pilots hitting hard. The landing absorbancy area of the fuselage is a heavy fiberglass and flexes with landings that are too hot or too steep. Wheel pants and brakes are in great shape. All instruments work, including night landing light, transponder, etc. This is an AS-IS sale for the aircraft.
This aircraft has a backup handheld King transceiver.. Push to talk yoke button makes talking to ATC very easy, as this aircraft is equipped with a four-headset interchange/intercom system that allows everyone in the aircraft to communicate very easily. This aircraft comes with a yoke mounted Lowrance gps, maps & airports large screen navigation system, so you'll always know where the nearest landing strip is. This aircraft has had all new glass installed, all the way around the airplane. The heavier thickness glass was installed on the windshield for sound reduction from the engine. You should note, Aero Commander's have excellent visibility as they have the open rear windshield, and allow for easy clearing of what's around you.
This aircraft has new seating, dash and rear-dash upholstery. Blue in color. Over twelve hundred dollars was spent on this process, using aircraft grade foam, and a certified aircraft upholstery service.
This aircraft has a useful load of over 980 lbs, and has always had the tanks full of fuel to resist inner corrosion. Not only is this the case, but this aircraft has the auto fuel conversion kit on it, so you can run auto fuel through it to save on expenses, but the plane has only had aircraft fuel in it for the last eighteen months or longer. This aircraft also has a clear title, and no liens or encumbrances.
With trim adjusted, this aircraft will cruise along with no problems at 128 mph, and this aircraft has a 13:1 glide ratio. This means at 3000 ft, you have over five miles to find a pea patch to land in.
Service ceiling on this aircraft is rated at 14,000 ft. Stall speed is 52 mph with no flaps. Stall speed is 48 mph at 3/4 flaps. Rate of climb is 850 feet per minute. Take-off distance 750 feet. Normal landing distance 650 feet. Empty weight 1280 lbs, gross weight 2250 lbs. Baggage capacity 120 lbs. Fuel capacity 44 gallons. Engine rated 150 hp. Propeller, Sensenich M74DM-60. Wing loading 12.2 lbs/sq ft. Power loading 14.7 lbs/hp. Top speed 142 mph TAS. 120 mph at 2450 rpm. 115 mph at 1700 rpm. OAT 50.
2100 rpm for mag check. Take-off rotation at 60 mph. Ground handles very well. With no flaps and power pulled back, the Commander does not develop a high sink rate. The smooth laminar flow wing likes to fly, and without flaps you have to shove the nose down to lose height. The landing gear is very forgiving, and the nose can be held off for a long time. The main gear is of steel, and a heavy bar of fiberglass running across the bottom of the fuselage between the gear flexes to absorb landing stresses. There is very little tendency to throw you back into the air if you drop it in a little too far. In a cross wind, you can keep a lot of rudder fed in and hold the nose well up until most of your forward speed is lost. The 360 degree vision is very comforting when you're bending around onto a base leg. The Commander handles harsh air very well. You can take a steep approach and the flaps will really pull you down. Even better than that is the fact that the Commander slips with full flaps! Hard to run out of rudder. Short take offs take less than 500 feet of runway, and closer to 400 feet with a 10 knot headwind. Excellent characteristics for a trainer as it will routinely get a break at under 45 mph with power on, no wing drop, and the airplane will immediately start flying itself after the break. Docile performance at low speeds. Slow fly and crab at 60 on the dial. Formidable side-loading on the gear on landing will show the airplane's ability to outsmart mishandling. Plenty of control and you don't have to blanket the tail, even with full flaps. It lands well, stalls well, and flies well.
Cabin and interior walls are made of Royalite so soap and water easily cleans it up. 120 mph with full tanks and three aboard at 2450 rpm!
Larger baggage shelf with extended rear window. Span is 35 feet, and length is 22 feet six inches. Aft section of the fuselage is one piece for attachment to the cabin! Tail cone, wing tips, engine cowling and wheel pants are all fiberglass. This airplane goes fast for a four seater!
Steps on each strut are exactly right for easy entry. There are no cables in the Commander 100: Everything is torque tubes, and the control yokes are connected to a central assembly of rods which run down under the panel between the two pilots! Windows everywhere, and cut low for great ground-watching, which is half the fun of flying. Ground turning radius is very small, and steering response very quick. Cruise at 128 mph at 75% power! Visibility with a low panel is superb.
This aircraft has been on tie down at John C. Tune airpark in Nashville, TN.
The engine compartment on this aircraft has been one of the cleanest I've ever seen. Motor was painted aircraft gray, and no leaks or drips of any kind. All wires, plugs, spin on filter, etc look fantastic. This engine was borescoped for compliance prior to the annual being signed off on, and this annual was NOT a pencil whipped annual. Of importance here also is the fact that is aircraft does not have expensive toe brakes. To give you an affordable aircraft, Aero Commander's were equipped with a brake handle that can be operated from either side.
The aircraft is currently in the hangar, and all new aviation bolts were used for re-assembly. High grade ultra shine aircraft paint was used on this job, and just in case you don't know, a strip and paint job on a high-wing aircraft can go anywhere from $5000 to $10,000 so this is a heck of a deal for the buyer. The buyer must be willing to pick up the plane up fron John C. Tune airpark after 1/7/12.
Buyer must sign off on a hold harmless agreement, and agree to flight training if not a licensed pilot. This is a real aircraft, and yes, you can get hurt if negligent.
This plane has a stupendous climb rate, 850 fpm and great service ceiling and glide ratio. This is a tremendous aircraft for the money. I have over $28,000.00 invested in this aircraft. No, respectfully, I won't take any less. This is a great deal as it is. The reason for selling is I have a new baby daughter, and I'm building a mattress factory. I own the aircraft outright, so I don't have to sell it, but would like to finish off some finishing touches to my factory.
The airplane starts with only two pumps and on initial key turn. This aircraft has all new aviator's backlit operational compass, altimeter, airspeed indicator, vertical speed indicator, heading indicator, etc., stall warning, and all other gauge clusters and ifr instruments work great. Get in the plane and fly. A one thousand dollar deposit must be paid upon bidding, and payment in full must be received within forty-eight hours of the winning bid. Paypal is accepted, or direct wire.
The aircraft also comes with brand new three step wing ladder, flight bag and knee board. I'm even throwing in a brand new pilot's watch in the flight bag. This is a one stop shop for new plane and everything you need to become an aviation enthusiast.
Feel free to email me through ebay with any other questions.
As you may know, you generally can't get a decent four seater with fuel consumption in the 7-8 gal per hour range that's worth anything under 25k. Please note, the aircraft wingtips are shown in the photos, and are made from a high composite fiberglass. The paint looks good on them from ten feet, but they're not absolutely perfect, but look nice. You can't get new wingtips for these, so they don't look quite as good as the aluminum in the new paint, but are clean and nice. Aircraft must be picked up by buyer at John Tune airpark upon completion of payment. Remainder of tie down time for the month will go with the sale. This is a steal, so Happy Bidding!
