The Slovenia-based aircraft manufacturer Pipistrel announced in early December that it has established a fourth company called Pipistrel Asia-Pacific through a partnership with Chinese entrepreneur Danny Wu Hao. The new company will be responsible for the construction of an aviation complex and aircraft factory located near Nanjing, China. Pipistrel Asia-Pacific will also manufacture Pipistrel’s two-seat electric powered Alpha Electro trainer and its four-seat Panthera hybrid high-performance aircraft.

    The Deal

Under the deal, Ivo Boscarol, Pipistrel founder, will hold a 51% stake in Pipistrel Asia-Pacific and Wu Hao a 49% stake. Notably, Wu Hao is to provide the capital investments needed to construct Project Jurong, which is described as a 130-hectare “aviation and tourist center” to be located roughly 40 miles from Nanjing. The complex will reside near Juron Lake National Park and be situated next to a highway connecting the complex to Jurong City via a 10-minute car ride and to Nanjing Lukou International Airport via a 30-minute drive.

    Pipistrel Asia-Pacific

Pipistrel Asia-Pacific is to construct the new airport, aircraft factory, villas compound, and an aviation university over the next two years. The company will also oversee the project’s construction, management, land acquisition, and other tasks.

The agreement also notably calls for Pipistrel to sell its technology and sales and production rights for the Alpha Electro and Panthera Hybrid to Pipistrel Asia-Pacific for 11 Asian countries, including China. Both aircraft will be produced in the new factory as part of Project Jurong.
