Bombardier Redesigns Recurrent Training Course For Challenger 605 & 650 Pilots

There’s good news for pilots of Bombardier’s large cabin Challenger 605 and Challenger 650 business jets. Through online remote training for the ground school FAA-certified course, the Montreal-based plane and train manufacturer is making it easier for pilots to participate in recurrent training for those aircraft. While the new program still features the “same comprehensive and professional instruction” Bombardier previously offered, the company says the program will reduce the length of onsite training required.

    Self-Paced Online Training

Bombardier says pilots can now undergo the updated ground school component of training, which consists of 15 hours of “self-paced online training.” Further, Bombardier now offers greater booking flexibility and a more diverse range of simulator time slots, which enable pilots to complete the simulator component of the FAA-certified course at Bombardier’s training centers in Montreal and Dallas. Overall, Bombardier Business Aircraft operates 11 simulators for business aircraft between its Dallas and Montreal training centers.

After a pilot completes the online component of the course, Bombardier says they have the ability to confer with instructors about any training questions they might have, access the latest operational requirements, and undergo a one-hour validation exam. To provide operators with current “insider knowledge and technology,” Bombardier offers in-house OEM-developed courseware covering flight and technical training.

    Maximizing Investments

Andy Nureddin, Bombardier Business Aircraft vice president, customer response and training, explained in a press statement that Bombardier is committed to offering a complete package covering both aircraft and customer experience considerations. “Not only do we design, build, and maintain the world’s leading business jets, we maximize our customers’ investment through our world-class training programs,” he said.

Nureddin added that by developing its own pilot and technician training programs, Bombardier customers appreciate the added value of Bombardier’s “first-hand knowledge and our innovative pedagogical approaches,” adding that “with 1,100-plus of Challenger 600 series business jets “we expect this course to benefit many flight departments and operators.” Bombardier states that Challenger 600 series aircraft are “the best-selling business jets of all time in the large segment.”

Introduced in 2006, that Challenger 605 entered service as a replacement for the Challenger 604. Typically carrying 10 to 12 passengers, Bombardier ended production of Challenger 605 in 2016. The Challenger 650, meanwhile, sports Bombardier’s advanced wing design, seats up to 12, supports a 4,000-nautical mile (7,408-kilometer) range, has a top cruise speed of Mach 0.85, and sports a 7.9-foot (2.4-meter)-wide cabin.
