Canada Takes Delivery Of First Airbus H145 Helicopter

    Posted On: December 26, 2018

Representatives from Airbus and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police recently gathered to commemorate the delivery of Canada’s first H145 helicopter model from Airbus. (Photo courtesy of Airbus.)

Airbus is well-known as a global-leading manufacturer of commercial passenger airliners, but it also manufactures and sells helicopters, including military, civil, and luxury ACH (Airbus Corporate Helicopters) models. Where serving law-enforcement missions in Canada via helicopters is concerned, Airbus says it owns 83% of the market. In mid-December, however, Canada received its first Airbus H145, a medium-sized, twin-engine model that the country’s Royal Canadian Mounted Police’s Air Support Unit will use for various mission types.

    The H145 Up Close

In addition to its Safran Arriel 2E engines, a digital-glass Helionix avionics system, and four-axis autopilot ability, the H145 includes a Fenestron shrouded tail rotor, large cabin, and rear-loading clamshell doors. Mission-specific equipment includes an external hoist and rope-down device that’s suitable for one or two people, a Trakka A800 searchlight, ERS (Enhanced Reality System), HMS (Health Monitoring System), FLIR (forward-looking infrared camera), night vision goggles, TFO (Tactical Flight Officer) workstation, and internal long-range fuel tank system.

    Serving A Mission

The RCMP is basing the H145 out of its Lower Mainland District facility in British Columbia to bolster operations throughout the province; the helicopter will support Emergency Response Team day and night tactical deployments over water and land. The H145 will also enhance the RMCP’s fast-roping and hoisting options, help in missing persons cases, and assist in search and rescue operations.

If you’re in the market for new and used helicopters, including H145 and other Airbus models, you’ll find hundreds of piston and turbine helicopters for sale on Controller.com.
