Liebherr-Aerospace Notes Its Contributions To The Airbus A330neo

    Posted On: December 4, 2018

In addition to air conditioning, avionics cooling, and engine bleed air systems, Liebherr-Aerospace contributed the humidification system for the crew rest area located in the A330neo long-haul jetliner that Airbus recently delivered to carrier TAP Air Portugal. The late-November delivery marked the first for the aircraft. (Photo courtesy of Liebherr.)

Liebherr-Aerospace, one of 11 divisions of the Liebherr Group, develops and manufactures flight control and actuation systems, landing gear, and air-management systems used in wide-bodied and commuter aircraft, regional and business jets, military aircraft, and helicopters. The firm recently detailed its contributions to the recent first delivery of an Airbus A330neo jetliner. Airbus delivered the wide-body aircraft, featuring new Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines and the new Airspace by Airbus cabin design, to TAP Air Portugal on Nov. 26. Liebherr Aerospace, which provided numerous systems and components to the aircraft, has also worked with Airbus on its A320neo and A380 aircraft.

    Systems & Components

Liebherr-Aerospace says the TAP Air Portugal’s A330neo was configured with 298 seats (including 34 business seats), and that among the various systems and components Liebherr provided are the aircraft’s air conditioning, avionics cooling, and engine bleed air systems, and the humidification system for the crew rest area. These systems and components originated from Liebherr-Aerospace’s OEM facility in France.

Elsewhere, Liebherr-Aerospace says the aircraft’s high-lift system, rudder and spoiler actuator, landing gear door actuation, and cargo door actuator originated from its Germany-based sister company Liebherr-Aerospace Lindenberg. Liebherr-Aerospace says it will fully support its solutions in use in the A330neo throughout the aircraft’s entire lifecycle.

    The A330neo

In a typical three-class configuration, the A330neo houses 287 seats, although “high-density” configurations can handle up to 440 seats. The aircraft features new composite Sharklet wingtip devices and increased lift and reduced drag abilities. Measuring 208.83 feet (63.7 meters) long, the A330neo has a maximum range of 7,200 nautical miles (13,334 kilometers) and is in fierce competition with Boeing and its 787 aircraft in the long-haul jetliner market.
