Airbus Selects 22 Startups For Company’s Latest BizLab Accelerator Program
Commercial aircraft manufacturer Airbus is launching its fifth accelerator program for new startups via the company’s BizLab entity, or “the global aerospace accelerator.” Airbus selected 22 startups to participate in the latest program, which Airbus says provides a platform “to develop previously untapped technologies and ways of working in the aerospace sector.” The startups hail from nine countries and were selected from 704 applications that came in from 59 countries overall.
Getting Down To Biz
Since Airbus launched BizLab in 2015, 72 startups and 54 internal projects have benefited from a “hybrid” approach in which startups and Airbus “intrapreneurs speed up the transformation of innovative ideas into valuable businesses.” Those startups and projects have raised about $26.04 million combined, says Airbus, which hosts the startups at four BizLab locations in France, Germany, India, and Spain. The first BizLab opened in 2015 in Toulouse, France.
The 22 startups participating in the current BizLab program will have six months of direct access to Airbus coaches, experts, support staff, co-working spaces, and free hosting. They’ll also take part in various networking opportunities, including a Demo Day with Airbus decision-makers, venture capitalists, and Airbus partners and customers. Airbus says upon request, 150 Airbus experts overall can provide technical and business advice in their respective domains.
United Synergies
A primary criteria Airbus uses to select BizLab participates is gauging the synergies between startup projects and its own sustainability, environment, and innovation strategy in terms of reducing emissions and developing alternative propulsion technology, additive manufacturing, data analytics, robotics, smart protection and testing systems, and artificial intelligence.
