FAA Approves Garmin G5000 Avionics Upgrade To Bombardier Vision Flight Deck In Learjet Aircraft

    Posted On: January 21, 2020

Bombardier recently announced that an upgraded Garmin G5000 avionics suite will come standard with new deliveries of its Learjet aircraft, including the upcoming Learjet 75 Liberty (shown here), and will be available as a retrofit for in-service Learjet 70 and 75 jets. Bombardier is enhancing the Bombardier Vision flight deck in the company’s Learjet aircraft with an upgrade to the Garmin G5000 avionics suite onboard. The Federal Aviation Administration has certified the upgrade, which will be standard on all new Learjet aircraft, including the Learjet 75 Liberty expected to enter service later this year. The upgrade will also be available as a retrofit for in-service Learjet 70 and Learjet 75 models early this year.

    Reducing The Workload

The upgraded Garmin G5000 avionics suite introduces such workload-reducing enhancements as climb, cruise, and descent vertical navigation and enhanced takeoff and landing performance calculations. As an option, Bombardier will offer FANS 1/A+ to enable accessing the most efficient and favorable routes. Various wireless connectivity features on tap will include two-way flight plan transfers between compatible apps and avionics made possible via Garmin’s Stream 510 solution.

Carl Wolf, Garmin vice president of aviation sales and marketing, says the upgrade delivers a “state-of-the-art avionics suite with an advanced feature set that reduces pilot workload, improves situational awareness, and gives pilots a superior in-flight experience.” Other enhancements Bombardier has recently introduced to Learjet aircraft include a standard pocket door and longer maintenance intervals.

    The Learjet 75 Liberty

Announced in July, the six-seat, light-jet class Learjet 75 Liberty is certified to Federal Aviation Administration Part 25 regulations, which are typically applicable to commercial airlines. The jet has a 2,080-nautical mile (3,852-kilometer) maximum range, a top speed of Mach 0.81, and includes what Bombardier says is the light jet segment’s first Executive Suite. The suite provides two forward-facing seats and roughly 3 feet (91 centimeters) of legroom. While the jet has the same operating costs as its light jet competitors, Bombardier says, it offers the most spacious cabin, fastest speed, longest range, and smoothest ride.
