An aircraft from the Gulfstream Aerospace G800 flight test program touched down in Geneva, Switzerland, this week at the 2023 European Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition (Ebace), marking the “ultralong-range” business jet’s European debut. The jet completed the trip from Gulfstream’s headquarters in Savannah, Georgia, using a blend of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). All G800 test flights originating from Savannah have flown on an SAF blend, says the General Dynamics-owned manufacturer. The all-new 19-passenger business jet appeared at the trade show, which wraps up today, along with Gulfstream’s G280, G500, G600, G650ER, and G700 jets.

“By flying the G800 test aircraft to Ebace 2023 this year, we are demonstrating the maturity of this program,” says Gulfstream President Mark Burns. “The G800 presents a compelling combination of high-speed aerodynamics and fuel-efficient engines to decrease emissions and save flying time for our customers. Equipped with our latest advancements in technology and innovation, the G800 adds the industry’s longest range to our aircraft portfolio. We are pleased to display a Gulfstream for every mission in Geneva.”

    Up To 8,000 Nautical Miles

Gulfstream announced the G800 in October 2021 as its longest-range aircraft ever. Equipped with high-thrust Rolls-Royce Pearl 700 engines and Gulfstream-designed wings and winglets, the jet has a maximum range of 8,000 nautical miles (14,816 kilometers) at Mach 0.85 and 7,000 nm (12,964 km) at Mach 0.90. The G800’s maximum speed is Mach 0.925. The plane can connect passengers to more nonstop destinations around the world than any other business aircraft and save them up to 1.5 hours on flights longer than 6,500 nm (12,038 km), Gulfstream says.

The G800 offers customers plenty more than terrific long-distance performance, as they can configure the cabin with up to four living areas with sleeping space for up to 10 people. Passengers can expect to travel in business aviation’s quietest cabin while taking in plenty of natural light thanks to 16 panoramic oval windows, which Gulfstream says are the industry’s largest. Passengers should also arrive at destinations plenty rested due to ergonomic seats and 100% fresh, never-circulated air and a plasma-ionization air purification system.

    Something For Pilots, Too

The G800 has much to offer pilots as well, including what Gulfstream says is the industry’s most extensive use of touchscreen technology (10 displays) with the award-winning, next-generation Gulfstream Symmetry Flight Deck. The flight deck, which also features active control sidesticks, boasts dual head-up displays (HUDs) that include a new Combined Vision System (CVS) that combines imagery from an Enhanced Flight Vision System (EFVS) and Synthetic Vision System (SVS) into a single image, enhancing pilots’ situational awareness and enhancing safety.
