Representing the culmination of the original Continental-powered PA-46, the 1988 model has long held a special place among Malibu enthusiasts. Under the cowling sits the highly desirable Continental TSIO-550 conversion with less than 100 hours since major overhaul, turning a legendary airframe into an even more compelling cross-country machine. Add a three-blade Hartzell propeller, low total airframe time, and a thoughtfully modernized Garmin glass cockpit, and you’ve got a combination that’s becoming increasingly difficult to find.
There’s a reason the original Malibu continues to command such a loyal following. Pressurized comfort, impressive high-altitude performance, and remarkable fuel efficiency make it one of the most capable piston singles ever produced. The 1988 model represents the final evolution of that original design, and N521MM brings modern technology to an already exceptional platform.
The white exterior with rich, deep green and gold accent striping presents well, while the tan leather interior with coordinating beige and brown trim would benefit from a refresh in the near future.
