Founded in 1973 by Richard VanGrunsven, Van’s Aircraft is a leading global designer and manufacturer of aircraft kits. Now based at the Aurora State Airport near Aurora, Oregon, Van’s Aircraft offers one- to four-seat experimental and light sport aircraft featuring a low-wing monoplane design, monocoque construction, tandem/centerline or side-by-side seating, and taildragger or tricycle landing gear. Common Van’s models include the RV-4, RV-6A, RV-7, RV-7A, RV-8, RV-8A, RV-9A, RV-10, and RV-12; you’ll find a variety of new and used Van’s Aircraft models for sale on Controller.com.

VanGrunsven began planting the seeds for the formation of Van’s Aircraft’s in the 1960s when he modified a Stits SA-3A Playboy, a one-seat model Ray Stits designed in the early 1950s. That project led to VanGrunsven making the plans of his modifications available for sale as the RV-3. Van’s Aircraft’s latest offering is the RV-14/RV-14A, and its RV-12 meets the FAA’s E-LSA (Experimental Light Sport Aircraft) standards when built as a kit, or the S-LSA (Special Light Sport Aircraft) standard when built in the factory.

Van’s Aircraft reportedly had 9,700 kits completed and in use as of July 2017. The company estimates completing one of its kits takes roughly 1,110 to 2,000-plus hours depending on the model and customer’s work rate. Van’s Aircraft offers Standard and QuickBuild kits; Van’s says the latter will lower assembly time to between 800 and 1,200 hours.
