Between World War I and World War II, sometimes referred to as the Golden Age of aviation, the Weaver Aircraft Company was a leading global designer and manufacturer of civilian aircraft. The company specialized in open-air biplanes, such as its top-selling WACO Model 10 that went into production in 1927. Founded in 1919 and located in Troy, Ohio, Weaver Aircraft eventually changed its name to the Advance Aircraft Company and then to WACO Aircraft Corp. Common WACO models include the UBF, AGC-8, INF, UKC, UPF-7, QCF-2, CUC-1, CTO, YMF-C, and YMF Super; you’ll find a variety of new and used WACO aircraft for sale on Controller.com.

Founded by George Weaver, Clayton J. Bruckner, Elwood Junkin, and Charles William Meyers, WACO supplied U.S. and British forces with military gliders during World War II. Following some post-WWII struggles, the company ceased operations in 1947, but not before reportedly producing 62 aircraft models. After ending operations, the company’s type certificates and plans entered the public domain.

In the mid-1980s, Peter Bowers and Jon Bowers started a Michigan-based company called Classic Aircraft Corporation that brought new life to the WACO brand by earning a new FAA certification based on the original WACO YMF type certificate from the 1920s. Eventually, the company changed its name to the WACO Aircraft Corporation, which now sells bi-planes under the WACO YMF-5D, YMF-5F Amphib, and Great Lakes By WACO models featuring the WACO design style but with modern avionics and systems.
