About The Bombardier Global 6000
In December 2021, business jet manufacturer Bombardier marked the 1,000th aircraft delivery from its Global family of business jets. Among those 1,000 airplanes were hundreds of Global 6000 jets. A descendant of the Global Express, the ultra-long-range, large-cabin Global 6000 was produced from 2012 to 2019.
Bombardier Global 6000
At its introduction, Bombardier said the Global 6000 had the widest cabin in its class and offered more cabin volume and floor space than any of its class competitors. Able to seat up to 17 passengers, the Global 6000 has a 6,000-nautical-mile (11,112-kilometer) flight range at a typical cruise speed of Mach 0.85 and with as many as eight passengers. In addition to business aviation uses, Global 6000 owners use the aircraft for military, medivac, and other special missions.
Bombardier Aerospace History
Headquartered in Montreal, Bombardier entered the aerospace sector in 1986 when it acquired Canadair, the maker of Challenger business jets. In 1990, Bombardier purchased the Learjet luxury business jet lineup. Additional aerospace investments followed in 1992 with the acquisition of aircraft manufacturer De Havilland. The deal included De Havilland’s Toronto assembly and manufacturing facility, where Bombardier developed and manufactures the Global 7500. Bombardier’s roster of business jets also includes the Learjet 75 Liberty; the Challenger 350, 650, and 3500; and the Global 5500, 6500, and 8000.
The Global 6000 Up Close
The Global 6000 was preceded by the Global 5000, which was announced in 2001 and launched in 2002. In addition to an advanced wing design, the Global 6000 was introduced with twin Rolls-Royce BR710A2-20 turbofan engines, each of which generates 14,750 pounds-force of maximum thrust. The aircraft also boasts the Bombardier Vision flight deck with head-up display (HUD), enhanced vision system (EVS), and synthetic vision system (SVS).
In 2018, Bombardier updated the Global 6000, resulting in the Global 6500, which also seats up to 17 passengers, but has a longer 6,600-nm (12,223-km) flight range thanks to its custom-designed Rolls-Royce Pearl 15 engines. The engines feature enhanced aerodynamics, blade cooling, and health-monitoring systems, and have an up to 13% fuel-burn advantage.
Performance
The Global 6000 has a top speed of Mach 0.89 and a high cruise speed of Mach 0.88, a maximum operating altitude of 51,000 feet (15,545 meters), a 6,476-ft. (1,974-m) takeoff distance, and a 2,670-ft. (814-m) landing distance. Thanks to its performance and steep-approach certification, Bombardier says the Global 6000 is the largest business jet able to fly nonstop from Aspen to London City Airport. The jet measures 94 ft. (28.7 m) across the wings, more than 99 ft. (30 m) from nose to tail, and 25.6 ft. (7.8 m) high.
The Premier Cabin
In 2017, Bombardier introduced a new Premier cabin for both the Global 6000 and Global 5000 that featured updated aesthetics, intelligent ergonomics, and advanced connectivity features including Ka-band internet. Made available in 2018, the cabin was inspired by the interior of the Global 7500, which won a Red Dot Design Award. The Global 6000’s cabin features three separate zones, and measures 6.2 ft. (1.88 m) high by 7.11 ft. (2.16 m) wide by 43.3 ft. (13.19 m) long.
