The Astra-Gulfstream connection traces to 1969 when the 1953-founded Israeli Aircraft Industries (now Israeli Aerospace Industries) bought the manufacturing rights from North American Rockwell for the Jet Commander executive aircraft. The acquisition led to IAI’s Westwind line of business aircraft, which would provide the foundation for the Astra 1125 midsize business jet, a model that saw its first delivery in 1986.

In 1990, IAI followed the Astra up with the improved Astra SP. Roughly five years later, the company produced the improved Astra SPX midsize jet, later rebranded as the Gulfstream 100, or G100, after General Dynamics, owner of Gulfstream, bought the IAI subsidiary Galaxy Aerospace, maker of the Astra.

IAI continues to manufacture the G150 midsize business jet, G200 super-midsize business jet, and the G280 super-midsized business jet under the Gulfstream brand. Gulfstream produced the G150, a model notable for being the first business jet that the FAA certified for Stage 4 in 2016. The last G150 delivery was scheduled for mid-2017. Pre-owned Astra/Gulfstream models include the late 1980s Astra 1125, Astra 1125 SP, and Astra SPX models ranging from 1996 to 2001.
