British Aerospace Company, or BAe, was the manufacturer of the BAE Jetstream 31, Jetstream 32 (or Jetstream Super 31), and Jetstream 41, as well as the Avro RJ70. The company was formed in the mid-1970s through the merger and nationalization of British Aircraft Corporation, Hawker Siddeley Aviation, Hawker Siddeley Dynamics, and Scottish Aviation. In 1999, BAe merged with Marconi Electronic Systems to form BAE Systems, which owned a 20% share of Airbus at one time and is now one of the world’s leading defense companies.

British Aerospace Company’s 19-seat, twin-engine turboprop Jetstream 31 first flew in March 1980 and was certified in the U.K. two years later. An engine upgrade in 1985 resulted in the Jetstream 32, or Super 31, which remained in production until 1993. BAe developed the Jetstream 41, a 29-passenger twin-turboprop, as a “stretched” version of the Jetstream 31.

The Jetstream 41 first flew in 1991 and was certified in 1992 and 1993 in the U.K. and United States, respectively. After delivering 100 units, production on the aircraft ended in 1997. BAe’s Avro RJ series, meanwhile, resulted from improvements made to the company’s BAe 146. BAe would eventually introduce the improved Avro RJX, although only one production model was built. Production of the Avro RJ aircraft ended in 2003. BAE Systems continues to support BAe aircraft, including via VIP configurations performed through its Regional Aircraft division.
