Bell Helicopter’s roots are tied to the Bell Aircraft Corporation, a company Lawrence Bell founded in 1935 that would go on to make key contributions in the civilian and military aircraft spaces, including creating the Bell X-1, the world’s first supersonic aircraft. Now owned by Textron Inc., which also owns the Cessna, Beechcraft, and Hawker brands, Bell Helicopter is headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, and manufacturers and sells a range new and pre-owned helicopters aimed at the military, industrial, and business sectors.

Bell Helicopter’s line of commercial helicopters include nine models that range from the Bell 206L4, a six-person model “designed to be the ideal flying workplace” that includes club-passenger seating and Rolls-Royce 250-C30P engine, to the newer Bell 525 Relentless, a 16-passenger craft expected to come to market in 2018 that’s touted as the first commercial helicopter to integrate Garmin G5000H touch avionics and as the world’s first fly-by-wire commercial helicopter.

Bell Aircraft Corporation began helicopter development in 1941 with the Bell Model 30, a craft involved in the first U.S. indoor helicopter flight in 1944. The Bell Model 30 was used to complete the first helicopter-based medical emergency mission and first helicopter rescue. In 1957, Bell Helicopter Corporation became a wholly owned subsidiary of Bell Aircraft, which Textron purchased in 1960.
