Italy-based Piaggio Aerospace designs, develops, manufacturers, and supports the Avanti EVO business aircraft line. The company also develops and manufactures various defense and security aircraft, including the P.1HH Hammerhead unmanned aerial vehicle and Piaggio Aerospace MPA advanced multirole patrol aircraft.

The twin turboprop Avanti EVO is the third-generation version of the Piaggio’s Avanti P.180, a model introduced in the 1990s that led to the creation of Piaggio Aero Industries. Later versions of the P.180 included the P.180 Avanti I and P.180 Avanti II. The EVO includes the company’s three-lift-surface configuration, as well as two Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-66B engines and Hartzell scimitar low-noise propellers.

Wholly owned by Mubadala Development Company, the strategic investment company for Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, Piaggio Aerospace has authorized services centers in the United States, Australia, Switzerland, Singapore, The Netherlands, India, and Germany. An American subsidiary named Piaggio America is located in West Palm Beach, Florida. The company’s roots date to 1884 when Rinaldo Piaggio founded the company as a manufacturer of rolling stock in the railway industry. The company entered the aerospace business in 1915. Piaggio’s son, Enrico, is credited with leading the development of the Vespa motor scooter.
