Saab’s primary contribution to the aviation sector is arguably the thousands of military aircraft the Linkoping, Sweden-based company produced in the early 1940s, including with the Saab 17 bomber. Saab civil aircraft contributions include Saab 90 and 91 models introduced after World War II. The company later released the twin-engine Saab 340 regional airliner turboprop, which went into service in 1984. The Saab 2000, a 50-to-58 seat twin-engine turboprop derivative of the 340 followed. New and used Saab models available at Controller.com include a 1964 Saab J35 Draken; Saab 340A models from 1986, 1987, 1988, and 1989; 1993 and 1997 Saab 340B models; and the Saab 2000.

Founded in 1937 as Svenska Aeroplan Aktie Bolag to manufacturer military aircraft, Saab teamed with Fairchild Aircraft in 1980 on what became the Saab-Fairchild SF-340, or SF-340, which first flew in 1983. After Fairchild exited the partnership in 1985, Saab redubbed the aircraft the Saab 340A. An improved Saab 340B model was introduced in the late 1980s and was produced until the late 1990s.

The Saab 2000 debuted in 1988 and was billed as the fastest turboprop airliner available. Saab delivered the first 2000 production model in 1994 and the last in 1999. The company ended all production of civil aircraft in 2005. From 2005 to 2010, the U.K.’s BAE Systems owned a roughly 20% stake in Saab.
