Read More (About Tecnam)Tecnam is an Italian manufacturer of single- and twin-engine general aviation and light sport aircraft (LSA) available in low- and high-wing models designed for commercial, flight training, recreation and leisure, and special-mission applications. The popular, versatile 11-seat P2012 piston twin, for example, can be converted from the nine-passenger interior layout used by regional airline operations into configurations for medevac, cargo, and passenger and cargo flights. Tecnam is based in Capua, Italy, where it operates an auxiliary factory for assembly. It also has a factory in Casoria, Italy, along with a U.S. subsidiary in Sebring, Florida, that includes a service center, and an Australian subsidiary in Runaway Bay. Tecnam says more than 7,500 of its airplanes are in operation worldwide. They’re supported by a global network comprising more than 65 dealers and 125 service centers.
Tecnam was founded in 1986, but its roots date to 1935 in Benevento, Italy, where brothers Luigi and Giovanni Pascale launched paper airplanes from a balcony in their family home as young boys, sparking a lifelong love affair with aviation. By the early 1950s, they had produced their first airplane, the P48 Astore. Next came the low-wing P52 Tigrotto and the single-seat P53 Aeroscooter. The success of the P55 Tornado motivated the brothers to launch their first company, Partenavia, which the Italian government acquired in the 1980s. In the 1990s, Tecnam developed the P92 ultralight, of which more than 2,600 were built over the years. In the early 2000s, Tecnam released the twin-engine P2006T and the single-engine P2008. In 2010 came the high-wing P2010, Tecnam’s first four-seat aircraft, followed by the P2012, which first flew in 2016.
Tecnam’s lineup includes the P2010 Gran Lusso, a “super luxury” variant of the P2010 that made its U.S. debut in 2022. Along with refined Italian leather upholstery, it features a 170-horsepower (125-kilowatt) turbocharged Continental CD-170 engine, a Garmin NXi touchscreen avionics suite, new wingtips, and carbon fiber insets. Next up is P2008, which is available in a “light sport luxury” version that offers multiple Rotax engine options to go with its composite fuselage and metal wings, landing gear, and a stabilator. Tecnam’s Astore, which is outfitted with a sliding bubble canopy, is slotted as an excellent entry point for new light sport owners. Tecnam is also developing the P-Volt, an all-electric, twin-motor, short-range passenger model based on the P2012 Traveller. It features a Rolls-Royce-designed electric propulsion system, and will be the first cargo, medevac, special-mission, and commercial passenger aircraft with electric propulsion from a commercial manufacturer, Tecnam says.
