Westwind jet aircraft stem from the original 1121 Jet Commander twin-engine business jet that Aero Commander developed in the early 1960s. North American Rockwell, which acquired Aero Commander, would end up selling the manufacturing rights to the 1121 in 1968 to Israel Aircraft Industries, an Israeli government-owned aviation company that began manufacturing the aircraft under the Westwind brand.

After acquiring rights to manufacture the 1121 Jet Commander, IAI made numerous modifications to the aircraft that resulted in the 1124 Westwind I, a model that entered production in the mid-1970s. Later, further improvements, including the addition of winglets, would lead to the company’s 1124 Westwind II, which entered production in the early 1980s.

Founded in 1953 as the Bedek Aviation Company, IAI continued to build upon the Westwind models with the Astra business jet, which was released in the late 1980s. Today, IAI offers the Gulfstream G-100 Astra SPX, G150 mid-sized business jet, G200 super-mid-sized business jet, and G280 super-mid-sized business jet. You’ll find a number of used Westwind aircraft for sale on Controller.com, often including the Westwind 1124, Westwind I, and Westwind II.
