Bombardier Business Aircraft is making 12 new enhancements available for in-service Learjet, Challenger, and Global business aircraft. The enhancements cover everything from situational awareness and regulatory compliance to cabin upgrades aimed at enhancing the performance, comfort, and “luxurious aesthetics” of those aircraft. The enhancements target Learjet 40 and 45, Challenger 300 series, Challenger 604, and Global aircraft and are available for installation at Bombardier’s nine global service centers.

Bombardier has announced it is making 12 new enhancements available to in-service Learjet 40/45 aircraft, Challenger 300 series aircraft, Challenger 604, and Global aircraft. The company’s Challenger 350 aircraft is shown here. (Photo courtesy of Bombardier.)

    Available As A Retrofit

Among the enhancements the Montreal-based Bombardier is offering are enhanced LCD cockpit displays for Learjet 40 and 45 light business jets and a SVS (synthetic vision system) available for Global aircraft as a retrofit option. Bombardier’s Global lineup includes the Global 5000, 6000, 7000, and 8000. Elsewhere, Bombardier states that new interior cabin enhancements it’s making available as a retrofit will “redefine luxury and comfort.”

Those interior cabin enhancements include custom-crafted stone flooring and “meticulously crafted conference tables” for Challenger and Global aircraft that feature a “single pillar pedestal for ergonomically comfortable and spacious seating.” Bombardier says a new purposefully designed interior atelier at its Tucson Service Center is equipped to make the interior enhancements.

Powered by Honeywell TFE731-20AR engines, the Learjet 40 is a variant of the midsize Learjet 45 business jet, albeit with a shorter fuselage. Along with the its 40, 45XR, and 40XR variants, the Learjet 45 was Learjet’s primary product stretching from the 1990s through the Learjet 75 aircraft introduction in 2012.

    Looming Deadlines

Bombardier is also offering installation assistance via its global service centers for operators of Challenger 300 series and Challenger 604 aircraft who are still facing 2020 deadlines to equip their aircraft with the FANS (Future Area Navigation System) over Iridium hardware. FANS 1/A technology enables pilot communications with air traffic controllers and facilitates flights over certain North American, European, and Atlantic regions.

In a statement, Jean-Christophe Gallagher, Bombardier Business Aircraft vice president and general manager, Customer Experience, said Bombardier can also assist operators needing to equip Challenger 300 series and 604 aircraft with ADS-B Out V2 (Automatic Dependent Surveillance - Broadcast) technology by January 2020. Customers, Gallagher said, “can align the installation with an upcoming maintenance to save time and money, while ensuring the highest quality of OEM parts and an exceptional customer experience.”

Introduced in 1995, the super-midsize Challenger 604 has a maximum cruise speed of Mach 0.82 and 4,000-nautical mile (7,408-kilometer) range. The Challenger 300, meanwhile, entered service in 2004 with a 3,065-nautical mile (5,676-kilometer) rang range.

Beyond new enhancements to in-service aircraft, Bombardier is also offering installation service at its global service centers to operators of Challenger 300 series and Challenger 604 aircraft facing January 2020 deadlines to equip their aircraft FANS 1/A and ADS-B Out technology.
