Bombardier’s 10-passenger Challenger 350 business jet recently earned its Transport Canada steep approach certification, which allows pilots to perform landings under strict conditions. Although Bombardier is still awaiting steep approach certification from the European Aviation Safety Agency and Federal Aviation Administration, the Transport Canada certification means all Bombardier business jets spanning the super-midsize to ultra-long-range classes can perform steep-approach landings. Notably, existing Challenger 350 owners can have the ability installed as a retrofit option.

Although Bombardier is still waiting on EASA and FAA steep approach certification for its Challenger 350 business jet, the aircraft’s recent Transport Canada certification distinction means all Challenger business jets covering the super midsize to ultra-long-range segments can perform steep-approach landings. An Undeniable Leader

Making its announcement at the Farnborough International Airshow outside of London, Bombardier pointed out that steep approach certification means the Challenger 350 can handle the 5.5-degree approach angle and short runway at London City Airport. Bombardier completed the Challenger 350’s steep-approach flight test campaign earlier this year and demonstrated its steep approach ability at London City Airport performing numerous takeoffs and landings.

Peter Likoray, Bombardier Business Aircraft senior vice president, said the achievement marks a major milestone, adding that the aircraft’s “proven high performance and superior in-flight experience” has made it “the undeniable market leader in its segment.”

    All Full

A member of the Challenger 300 series, Bombardier claims the Challenger 350 is the only super midsize aircraft that can fly full range at full fuel with full seat capacity. The company recently made the Rockwell Collins HUD (head-up display) and EVS (enhanced vision system) available as an option with new Challenger 350 orders and available as a retrofit installation for in-service models.

Introduced in 2014, the aircraft can quickly climb to a 43,000-foot (13,106-meter) initial cruising altitude and offers a maximum 32,000-nautical mile (5,926-kilometer) range and top Mach 0.83 speed powering on twin Honeywell HTF7350 turbofan engines.
