Piper Aircraft’s Q2 2018 Shows Continued Growth, Trainers & M-Class Deliveries Lead The Way

    Posted On: August 7, 2018

Piper Aircraft, maker of the single-engine M600 shown here that’s aimed at business and personal use, recently reported $62.3 million in Q2 2108 revenue based on 53 deliveries, which is up from $52.1 million and 32 deliveries for Q2 2017. (Photo courtesy of Piper Aircraft.)

More deliveries of its trainer models and M-Class series of business and personal use airplanes helped Piper Aircraft record $62.3 million in revenue for Q2 2018 based on 53 deliveries. That’s up from $52.1 million based on 32 deliveries for the same period in 2017. The Vero Beach, Florida-based Piper detailed its Q2 2018 financial numbers recently at the annual EAA AirVenture 2018 fly-in gathering in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

Piper credits growing demand for pilots as helping boost deliveries of its Trainer Class models, which include the Archer and Seminole. Piper’s Trainer Class deliveries climbed from 15 in Q2 2017 to 34 for Q2 2018, a 126 percent increase. (Photo courtesy of Piper Aircraft.)
    Trainers Lead The Way

Piper’s various single- and twin-engine aircraft include the single-engine M-Class series’ M600, M500, and M350 models. The Twin Class includes the twin-engine Seneca V and Seminole, while the Trainer Class includes the Warrior, Archer TX, Archer DX, Arrow, Seminole, and Seneca V.

Piper credited its increased trainer deliveries to growing worldwide demand for pilots. Simon Caldecott, Piper Aircraft president and CEO, said that offering a complete trainer product line continues to help Piper expand sales and long-term commitments from leading global flight schools. Noting M-Class model demand also remains strong, Caldecott added that 2018’s second half should bring “continued strong performance across both primary segments with a strategic focus on the international market and robust product development.”

    Continued Growth

Piper reports M-Class deliveries grew 11 percent from Q2 2017 to Q2 2018. Led by the Archer and Seminole, Trainer Class deliveries rose from 15 to 34 for a 126 percent increase. Piper delivered 10 Seminoles in Q2 2018 and reports a backlog for Archers extending into Q3 2019. Elsewhere, Piper’s 2018 YTD aircraft revenue grew 37 percent (or $28.2 million) from $75.5 million last year to $103.7 million to date this year. Piper has delivered 87 aircraft YTD this year vs. 57 last year for a 52 percent increase.
