Diamond Aircraft Details Company’s 2018 Demonstration Tour Of Africa With DA62 MPP & DA 40 NG Aircraft
Along with Gulfstream, Airbus, Boeing, Embraer, and dozens of other global aviation companies, Austria-based Diamond Aircraft is set to appear at the Aviation Africa Summit & Exhibition happening February 27 and 28 in Kigali, Rwanda, where civil and business aviation and support industry representatives will converge. Diamond Aircraft—manufacturer of single- and twin-engine piston and turboprop aircraft, including the DA20, DA40, DA42, and DA62—is certainly familiar with Africa. For four weeks in September and October 2018, the company toured East and South Africa with its DA62 MPP special mission aircraft and DA40 NG trainer.
“Perfect Performance”
Reinhard Schwaiger, Diamond Aircraft sales manager Africa and Middle East, says the late-2018 tour provided Diamond a chance to demonstrate DA40 NG’s and DA62’s abilities to a new audience. Schwaiger says the full composite structure and turbocharged JET-A1 engines the aircraft use “showed perfect performance throughout the whole journey at very low operating cost.” Schwaiger added that the aircrafts’ operational performance was “particularly apparent at African high-altitude airports in hot conditions” where Diamond’s aircraft “can fully develop its systemic advantages.”
Overall, Diamond completed 20 legs covering 10,000 nautical miles (18,520 kilometers) and 66.5 flight hours with the DA62 MPP and 30 legs spanning 10,800 nautical miles (20,000 kilometers) and 72.5 flight hours with the DA40 NG. The tour’s first stop came in Chilongolo, Zambia, where Diamond met with Flying Mission Zambia.
Special Mission Missions
Noting that Diamond previously conducted a successful demonstration tour in 2017 in West Africa, Michael Neufingerl, Diamond Aircraft sales manager Africa and APAC special mission aircraft division, said the company’s special mission aircraft is well-suited for such operations as border control and prevention of poaching, drug smuggling, piracy, and illegal fishing.
