Bombardier Inks Firm Order With Unidentified Customer For Six New Q400 Turboprops

Bombardier Commercial Aircraft recently announced a firm order deal with an unidentified customer valued at roughly $202 million. The deal will see the customer acquiring six new Bombardier Q400 turboprop aircraft, the newest member of Bombardier’s Q Series.

The Q400 Up Close

Seating up to 90 passengers, the Q400 offers an 1,100-nautical-mile (2,040-kilometer) flight range and 360-ktas (667-km/h) maximum cruise speed, which Bombardier says is 40% faster than conventional turboprops. Bombardier also claims the Q400 is the only commercial turboprop certified for operations at airfield elevations reaching up to 14,000 feet (4,267 meters). The aircraft can also handle short and unpaved runways, and is available in a Q400 Cargo Combi model seating 68 passengers.

Fred Cromer, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft president, says that global demand for turboprops overall is tremendous. Q Series aircraft, he says, “are ideally positioned to meet the needs of regional airlines, as they offer a unique ability to serve diverse and challenging environments. The Q400 offers the lowest seat costs amongst turboprops, with an enhanced passenger experience and a proven 99.5% reliability.”

Global Appeal

Bombardier says there are 550-plus Q400 turboprops in service with more than 60 operators in 40 countries. In total, Q400s have accumulated more than 10 million flight hours.
