Airbus 3D-Printing Visors To Help Combat COVID-19 In Spain
Jet and helicopter manufacturer Airbus reports that it has more than 20 3D printers working around the clock to produce visor frames and provide healthcare personnel with protective equipment in their battle against COVID-19. Most Airbus locations in Spain are participating, it says.
From Aerospace To Medical
Airbus is using a patented design that leverages PLA plastics to produce the visors. It has already manufactured hundreds, dispatching them to hospitals in Spain located near Airbus facilities. Alvaro Jara, head of Airbus Protospace in Getafe, Spain, says that overnight, Airbus went from “making aerospace concepts to medical equipment. This genuinely makes a difference in the fight against the pandemic, and I couldn’t be prouder of our teams working day and night on this Airbus project.”
The Airbus Protospace Germany and Airbus Composite Technology Centre operations in Germany have also joined the project, partnering with the international 3D-printing network Mobility Goes Additive to support the project and coordinate visor collections and transport to the Madrid region.
