Diamond Aircraft Supplies Flight Training Adelaide With DA40 & DA42 Piston Aircraft

Austrian manufacturer Diamond Aircraft reported in late April it has formalized a sale for 20 of its DA40 XLT single-engine piston and four DA42-L360 twin-engine piston aircraft with Flight Training Adelaide (FTA) to support the new Qantas Group Pilot Academy that FTA will operate in Toowoomba, Australia. Qantas is Australia’s largest domestic and international airline, and FTA is billed as a world-class training provider for the Australian aviation industry and various leading airlines. Diamond also produces DA62 aircraft and expects to make its new five-seat, single-engine piston DA50 variant available soon.

    Not Just A License

According to Qantas Group Pilot Academy, the aviation industry will need an estimated 790,000 pilots globally in the next 20 years, with roughly a third based in the Asia Pacific region. To help meet the need, Qantas launched the pilot academy in January, and it aims to build a long-term pilot pipeline for Qantas, regional airline QantasLink, Qantas subsidiary Jetstar, and the industry at large. FTA, meanwhile, says that since its establishment in 1982, it has focused on “producing future airlines captains rather than simply training students to obtain a license.”

FTA’s services include student selection, ab initio, advanced training courses, and management of accommodation facilities at Toowoomba’s Wellcamp Airport. Noting that FTA has been a longtime partner, Diamond Aircraft CEO Scott McFadzean says his company looks forward to supporting FTA’s “tremendous growth and focused mission to provide world-class flight training to its airlines partners, now including Qantas Group Pilot Academy.”

    Find Your Diamond Aircraft Plane

Diamond Aircraft makes its DA40 series aircraft available with either a jet fuel or AVGAS engine, and says the plane is a great option for travel, leaseback, and training. The four-seat DA40 XLT includes an IO360 Lycoming engine (“arguably the most reliable AVGAS engine of all time”) and Garmin G1000NXi avionics. Diamond refers to the seven-seat DA62, meanwhile, as a “flying luxury SUV” that uses two 180-horsepower Austro AE330 engines that support a maximum 192-KTAS (356-km/h) speed.

Controller.com is the industry’s leading source of new and used piston aircraft, including Diamond Aircraft models like DA42s and DA40s.
