Diamond Aircraft’s four-seat, twin-engine DA42-VI private and trainer piston aircraft has picked up a 2020 Golden A’ Design Award in the Aerospace and Aircraft Design category. The competition is billed as the “world’s largest, most prestigious, and influential design accolade, the highest achievement in design.” Award organizer A-Prime Design Awards says the A’ Design Award Winner logo “symbolizes exceptional design excellence.”

    “Highly Valued”

“We are very proud to have received the respected A’ Design Award for our DA42-VI,” says Liqun Zhang, CEO of Diamond Aircraft Industries GmbH. “The DA42-VI is highly valued by our clients all over the world and it’s a great pleasure to see her acknowledged by design professionals. This success would not be possible without a great team of highly passionate and experienced staff. I want to thank all of you—you have been doing an outstanding job every day—this award is dedicated to you!”

Diamond introduced the DA42 platform roughly 15 years ago, and says it has delivered about 1,000 units since then, outselling “all other certified piston twins combined.” The DA42 first flew in 2002, and 18 months later, it completed what Diamond says was general aviation’s first nonstop transatlantic crossing by a jet-fuel-engine-powered aircraft. The DA42-VI has a top speed of 197 KTAS and a maximum range of 1,215 nautical miles (2,250.2 kilometers).
