Textron Aviation is making Aviation Clean Air’s (ACA) Needlepoint Bi-Polar Ionization System (NPBI) available as a retrofit installation on select Beechcraft and Cessna aircraft. Announced this week, the cabin ionization system is focused on cabin air quality and maintaining travelers’ health and well-being, which Textron’s says is its top priority.

“In today’s world, cabin air quality has never been more important,” says Brian Rohloff, Textron Aviation senior vice president of customer service. “The ACA System enhances the capabilities of the interior environmental control system, providing an in-flight experience that offers peace of mind.”

    More Models Coming

The ACA system is approved for installations at Textron Aviation Service Centers for Cessna Citation Latitude midsize jets and Citation Sovereign-series aircraft, as well as Citation Excel, XLS, and XLS+ midsize jets and the Beechcraft King Air 300 series. Textron plans to add support for more models in the future.

Textron says pilots will use the indication panel for operation, and the NBPI will be installed in the aircraft environmental control system. The system emits cold plasma that enables positive and negative ions to attach to airborne water vapor molecules. That causes a molecular reaction that neutralizes gasses, spores, viruses, and bacteria, it says. ACA tests have shown effectiveness against numerous bacteria, spores, odors, static electricity, and viruses, including COVID-19. After taking effect in just minutes, the NPBI System is designed to continually decontaminate the cabin interior’s air and surfaces.
