Business jet manufacturer Embraer has announced that its Phenom 300MED medevac solution based on its Phenom 300-series jet has received a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) from the Federal Aviation Administration and European Union Aviation Safety Agency. The solution is installed by Embraer’s Services & Support organization and is available for new and in-service aircraft. The STC was performed at Embraer’s service center in Fort Lauderdale. Launch customer GrandView Aviation, a private charter aircraft provider, will operate the aircraft.

“We are pleased to announce the certification of the Phenom 300MED by the FAA and EASA,” says Marsha Woelber, vice president of worldwide executive jets customer support and aftermarket sales for Embraer Service and Support. “The Medevac solution provides superior value, benefiting from a market-leading product such as the Phenom 300 series, combining its unique capabilities with a fully comprehensive medical solution.”

    Healthy Flying

Embraer specified the Phenom 300MED’s aeromedical interior, while engineering services provider umlaut developed and certified it using equipment from Aerolite, which developed the aircraft’s intensive care unit. Aerolite designs, engineers, produces, and installs medical interiors. To meet STC requirements, umlaut ran an evacuation test on the Phenom 300MED to ensure two fully disabled patients could be evacuated.

The medevac solution is suitable for civil and government applications. Configuration alternatives available include one or two stretchers, the capability to carry an incubator, and options for additional medical equipment. Embraer says the Phenom 300MED can be easily converted between an executive and medevac interior in as little as five hours. As a medevac solution, the aircraft has a best-in-class cabin altitude of 6,600 feet (2,012 meters), resulting in a healthier flight experience for medical staff and patients alike, Embraer says.

    The Phenom 300E

The Phenom 300E has been the world’s best-selling light jet for 10 straight years and is the fastest and longest-ranged single-pilot jet in production, Embraer says. It can seat up to 10 passengers and has a maximum cruise speed of 464 KTAS and a maximum flight range of 2,010 nautical miles (3,723 kilometers) with five passengers with National Business Aviation Association IFR (instrument flight rules) reserves.

The jet has a maximum operating speed of Mach 0.80, a maximum operating altitude of 45,000 ft (13,716 m), and a maximum payload of 2,636 pounds (1,196 kilograms). It’s powered by twin Pratt & Whitney Canada PW535E1 engines, each with 3,478 pounds (15.5 kilonewtons) of thrust. An advanced Prodigy Touch Flight Deck based on the Garmin 3000 avionics suite is included.
