The HondaJet Elite II from Honda Aircraft made its first-ever appearance at the European Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition (Ebace), held earlier this week in Geneva, Switzerland. The very light jet was introduced in October 2022 complete with improved performance over the HondaJet Elite, a fully redesigned cabin, and new automation capabilities. The plane has received Federal Aviation Administration certification, and Honda Aircraft expects European Union Aviation Safety Agency type certification soon. There are 20 HondaJet aircraft operating in Europe and 230 around the world. In recent years, Honda Aircraft has doubled its authorized service center in Europe and opened a flight training center in Farnborough.

“Debuting our latest aircraft at Ebace marks an important milestone for everyone at Honda Aircraft Company, demonstrating our unwavering commitment to excellence," says Honda Aircraft President and CEO Hideto Yamasaki. “The HondaJet Elite II continues our dedication to exceeding the expectations of customers worldwide by setting new standards in performance, efficiency, and comfort for the future of very light jets.”

    A Class Leader

The Elite II is the fastest-, farthest-, and highest-flying plane in its class, Honda says. The jet has a 1,547-nautical-mile (2,865-kilometer) fight range with four passengers, a maximum cruise speed of 422 KTAS, and a maximum cruise altitude of 43,000 feet (13,106 meters). The company says the Elite II is also significantly more fuel-efficient and has lower greenhouse gas emissions than all other similarly sized twin-engine business jets. To ferry the jet to and from Geneva, Honda Aircraft used the Sustainable Aviation Fuel Book and Claim (SAFC) Program, promoting the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and supporting the aviation industry’s commitment to carbon neutrality.

    High-Tech

Honda builds the Elite II using an Over-The-Wing Engine Mount (OTWEM) configuration, natural laminar flow nose and wing design, and a composite fuselage. The manufacturer says that these factors, along with the aircraft’s GE Honda Aero Engines HF120 power plants, provide superior performance, unmatched efficiency, and maximised fuselage space, making possible the segment’s largest cabin. The cabin interior measures 4.82 ft high by 5 ft wide by 17.8 ft long (1.47 m by 1.52 m by 5.43 m). Combined baggage space measures 62 cubic feet 1.76 cubic meters).

The aircraft’s “highly customized” Garmin G3000 avionics suite makes pilots’ job easier through automation technologies like Autothrottle. This optional feature reduces pilot workload by taking over power management based on desired flight characteristics through all phases of flight, thus enhancing performance precision and efficiency. Emergency Autoland technology from Garmin, meanwhile, autonomously controls and lands the aircraft without human intervention in emergency situations.
