    About Cirrus Aircraft

Founded in 1984 by brothers Alan and Dale Klapmeier as the Cirrus Design Corporation, Cirrus Aircraft is a leading manufacturer of piston single and jet aircraft, with headquarters in Duluth, Minnesota, and Knoxville, Tennessee. Cirrus claims to be the world’s largest producer of piston-powered aircraft since 2013. Its offerings include the SR20, SR22, and turbocharged SR22T (sometimes referred to as the "SR22 Turbo") single-engine piston models. Cirrus also manufactures the Vision Jet, billed as the world’s first single-engine personal jet.

    Cirrus Vision Jet

Cirrus says its aircraft have flown more than 11 million hours worldwide, and have helped more than 200 people return home safely thanks to its U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)-certified Cirrus Airframe Parachute System (CAPS), which won a Robert J. Collier Trophy in 2017 and is standard equipment on all Cirrus aircraft.

    Cirrus Aircraft History

In 2011, Cirrus was acquired by China Aviation Industry General Aircraft, a subsidiary of the Chinese government-owned Aviation Industry Corporation. In addition to company headquarters in Duluth and Knoxville, Cirrus has facilities in Grand Forks, North Dakota, and McKinney, Texas. The Texas facility is home to the firm’s VisionAir program, which provides flight training to Vision Jet customers, as well as aircraft management and maintenance.

    SR Series Aircraft

Cirrus delivered its first SR20 in 1999 complete with the CAPS system. In 2020, Cirrus announced nearly 350 deliveries of SR Series airplanes, making the SR series the best-selling high-performance piston aircraft for 19 consecutive years and helping Cirrus top 300 annual SR series deliveries for seven straight years. Cirrus says there are now more than 8,000 SR Series aircraft owners in more than 60 countries.

In 2020, Cirrus announced updated SR20, SR22, and SR22T models as part of an all-new sixth-generation G6 SR Series. The series notably featured the inclusion of a new Cirrus Aircraft App powered by the Cirrus IQ remote connectivity platform; the app provides a real-time digital connection to an SR Series plane from nearly any location. In 2021, Cirrus announced it would produce a very limited run of eight 8000 Limited Edition SR Series planes to commemorate 8,000 SR Series aircraft deliveries.

    The Vision Jet

In 2016, Cirrus received FAA certification for the Vision Jet, a jet aircraft that Cirrus says created a new “Personal Jet” category of aircraft. Cirrus launched a second-generation G2 Vision Jet update in 2019, featuring better performance, increased speed and range, and an upgraded Perspective Touch+ Garmin flight deck.

Additionally in 2019, Cirrus introduced the Safe Return system with Garmin Autoland for the Vision Jet, enabling the jet to operate autonomously to return the aircraft to the nearest suitable airport for landing in case of emergency. In 2020, Cirrus delivered 73 Vision Jets, making it the general aviation sector’s best seller for two straight years and pushing total deliveries of the aircraft to nearly 250.

In mid-2021, the company unveiled an upgraded G2+ Vision Jet featuring a 20% increase in takeoff performance, new exterior colors, and availability of Gogo InFlight Wi-Fi connectivity for the first time in a Vision Jet.
