Gulfstream Marks 300th Delivery Of Ultra-Long-Range G650

Three hundred. That’s the number of deliveries that Gulfstream Aerospace has now made of its ultra-long-range G650, a twin-engine business jet that is Gulfstream’s largest and fastest aircraft. Initially unveiled in 2008 and entering service in December 2012, the G650 is joined by the extended range G650ER, which offers a range of 7,500 nautical miles (13,890 kilometers) compared to the G650’s 7,000 nautical miles (12,964 kilometers).

Three Hundred & Counting

The 300 G650 deliveries help account for the 2,800-plus aircraft that Gulfstream Aerospace, a subsidiary of General Dynamics, has delivered to date across its product line. The product line includes the G280, G550, G500, and G600. Notably, the G650 can cover its 7,000-nautical mile range flying at Mach 0.85 nonstop with eight passengers. Both the G650 and G650ER, however, are capable of a near-supersonic maximum operating speed of Mach 0.925.

Able to seat up to 19 passengers and sleep up to 10, the G650 accumulated an impressive backlog of orders upon its release, and the backlog remains strong, stated Mark Burns, Gulfstream Aerospace president. “The continued popularity and demand of the G650 affirms its position as the leader in ultra-long-range segment,” he said in a news release. “The introduction of the G650 was a turning point, not just for Gulfstream, but for the industry as a whole. We set out to change the game and ultimately, we did just that.”

Record Breaker

A winner of the Robert J. Collier Trophy, the G650 is also a world record-breaker. As Gulfstream notes, the aircraft accumulated 22 city-pair speed records during a 41-hour and 7-minute westbound trek around the world. The G650ER charted its own records traversing the world late last year, setting five records in six days. That included records involving treks from New York to Paris and from Tokyo to New York. Combined, the G650 and G650ER have amassed 70 city-pair records, Gulfstream states.

Outside of the G650’s speediness, the aircraft also sports a spacious cabin, which at 8.5 feet (2.6 meters) wide is the largest in its class, according to Gulfstream. Featuring 16 large panoramic windows, the G650’s interior also allows for various configurations, including up to four living areas. Gulfstream also touts the aircraft as having the lowest cabin altitude among all business jets and as replenishing the cabin with 100% fresh air every two minutes. Cruising at 41,000 feet (12,497 meters), the G650’s cabin is pressurized to 3,290 feet (1,003 meters).
