Bombardier Touts New Nuage Seat, “Marvel Of Furniture Engineering”

Meet the Nuage, a business aircraft “seat unlike any other” from global train and plane manufacturer Bombardier’s Bombardier Business Aircraft unit. Bombardier is introducing the Nuage with its upcoming long-range Global 7000 business jet. The company hails the seat as the “first new seat architecture in business aviation in 30 years” and says it covered all bases where passenger needs and comfort are concerned in designing it.

    Everything Conceivable

When the Global 7000 enters service later this year, passengers will find a seat that Bombardier says it designed to maximize comfort and relaxation during long-haul flights. The company recently extended the baseline flight range for the 19-seat Global 7000 to 7,700 nautical miles (14,260 kilometers) at Mach 0.85, enabling it to connect more city pairs than any other business aircraft.

Bombardier recently detailed its Nuage seat for business aircraft. (Photo courtesy of Bombardier.)

“In designing the Nuage seat, we examined every conceivable passenger need and comfort that might arise while seated in flight and launched our process from there,” said Peter Likoray, Bombardier Business Aircraft senior vice president, sales and marketing, in a news release. Likoray says “this empathetic design philosophy” inspired Bombardier to design “the most innovative seat the industry has seen in three decades.” Providing “unprecedented balance of comfort and control,” the Nuage is “an ergonomic and aesthetic masterpiece that redefines the very notion of seated comfort for life above the clouds,” Likoray said.

If that isn’t enough to spark your interest, Bombardier also claims the seat offers an “ergonomically perfected deep recline position” no other business aircraft seat does. Further, unlike other aircraft seats in which only the back reclines, the Nuage incorporates a patented “tilt link system” that dips the seat when the back is reclined. That keeps a passenger’s body fully supported without putting pressure on the legs. “This dynamic movement is the result of years of research and development, and it serves to support and cradle the body like no other aircraft seat in the industry,” according to Bombardier.

    Swivel With Precision

Broadly, fluidity is a predominant trait of the Nuage. Using what Bombardier calls a “fluid movement system and patented floating base,” the Nuage can track and swivel smoothly without visible floor rails. Moreover, a center swivel axis that provides an “intuitively centered point of rotation in any position” lets passengers swivel “with ease and remarkable precision.”

Available in numerous fabrics, leathers, and finishes, the Nuage sports a tilting headrest, another feature no other business aviation seat offers, Bombardier claims. Besides providing optimal neck support in any position, the headrest helps keep an “effortless line of sight when watching TV or reading in a recline position.”

The Nuage is one of many interior features the Global 7000 will include. In addition to four distinct living spaces, the jet will include a full kitchen and dedicated crew suite within its 105-foot (32-meter) overall length and 6.3-foot (2-meter) high x 8.2-foot (2.5-meter) wide x 54.6-foot (16.6-meter) long cabin.
