Dassault Falcon 6X Enters Detail Design Phase

    Posted On: October 19, 2018

Dassault Aviation recently announced that its Falcon 6X business jet, which is scheduled for 2022 deliveries, has completed preliminary design and entered the detail design phase. Dassault expects to first fly the jet next year. (Photo courtesy of Dassault Falcon.)

The Falcon 6X twin-engine business jet that Dassault Aviation introduced in late February has completed preliminary design and entered the detail design phase. Dassault announced the progress at the recent National Business Aviation Association convention, where it displayed a 6X mockup. Eric Trappier, Dassault Aviation CEO and chairman, said “everything is on track” to begin deliveries in 2022 for the ultra-wide-body jet, which offers a maximum 5,500-nautical-mile (10,186-kilometer) range at Mach 0.80.

Dassault Aviation had a complete mockup of its new Falcon 6X wide-body business jet on display at the recent National Business Aviation Association convention in Orlando. The 6X will feature 30 extra-large windows and what Dassault says is more interior space than competitors in the 6X’s class. (Photo courtesy of Dassault Falcon.)
    Partners Locked In

Dassault has begun production of initial long-cycle structural parts for the Falcon 6X, and notes that development tests for the jet’s Pratt & Whitney Canada PW812D engines are “progressing well.” Trappier says that while the “development schedule is unusually tight for a program such as this," the 6X has a “good level of embedded maturity” in terms of aircraft and component design (the aircraft is largely patterned after the aerodynamics and system features of the Falcon 5X), and Dassault is “very confident” the jet will first fly in 2021.

Manufacturing of the 6X’s aft fuselage began this summer, and production of the mid fuselage section is to follow soon. Design tasks for the jet’s nacelles, which UTC Aerospace Systems is providing, are also underway, as are bench and flight tests for the PW812D engines. Additionally, Dassault says program partners have started stress computation, maintainability analysis, and manufacturing validation activities.

    Falcon 6X Features

In a statement concerning the development of its upcoming Falcon 6X business jet, Dassault Aviation noted that development tests for the Pratt & Whitney Canada PW812D engines the aircraft will use are progressing well. (Photo courtesy of Dassault Falcon.)

Besides offering the longest range in its class, Dassault says the Falcon 6X will offer more interior space than its class competitors and will provide the highest (6.6 feet/2.01-meters) and widest (8.6 feet; 2.6 meters) cross-section of any purpose-built business jet. The jet will feature 30 extra-large windows, use Dassault’s FalconEye Combined Vision System that’s now certified for approaches with 100-foot (30.5-meter) minimums, and will include FalconScan, a new onboard integrated maintenance system that can monitor 100,000-plus factors for real-time system self-diagnosis.

Besides the Falcon 6X, Dassault manufactures the Falcon 7X, 8X, 900LX, 2000LXS, and 2000S. You’ll find a variety of these new and used aircraft for sale on Controller.com, as well as Falcon 50s, Falcon 20Fs, and Falcon 10s.
