2,000th Boeing Aircraft Delivered To China
Boeing recently sold its 2,000th plane in China, a 737 MAX, to Xiamen Airlines. Although Boeing got off to a modest start in the country, selling just 1,000 aircraft in more than 40 years, it only took five years to sell 1,000 more and achieve this milestone. Now, with a strong foothold, the company says “one in four Boeing-made commercial jets goes to a Chinese operator, either through direct purchase or lease.”
Loyal Customer
This most recent order is Xiamen Airlines’ eighth MAX aircraft and brings the airline’s total number of jets to more than 200, all of which are from Boeing. Xiamen also takes advantage of Boeing Global Services and the Optimized Maintenance Program to improve operational efficiency and develop maintenance plans with the help of Boeing AnalytX. Its new 737 MAX sports a custom logo that highlights the 2,000th plane milestone.
“We are deeply honored to have achieved this delivery milestone in close partnership with our great partners in China. Our long-standing industrial relationship in this market has been mutually beneficial, fueling significant growth in Boeing's business, the U.S. economy, and the Chinese aviation industry,” says Ihssane Mounir, senior vice president of commercial sales and marketing of The Boeing Company. “We are grateful for the trust and confidence of great customers like Xiamen Airlines. Our teams are focused on supporting them by designing and delivering the best airplanes and services in the industry.”
A Good Start
Boeing points out that it has “more than 30 commercial customers in China” and its jets “comprise more than half of the greater than 3,000 jetliners flying in the country.” Boeing expects that figure to more than double by 2038, resulting in a demand for 7,690 new aircraft, which would equate to $1.2 trillion. Because Chinese manufacturers supply parts for many of Boeing’s aircraft, including the 737 MAX, 777, and 787 Dreamliner, the company is well poised to take advantage of that growth and continue its success in the country over the coming years.
