    Description

Buy the airplane. Add the boxes – or not! Every Saratoga II TC on the market today asks you to compromise on one of two things — the airframe or the panel. The clean, low-time examples wear GNS-era radios. The ones with modern touchscreen navigators are either high-time, non-glass, or well north of half a million dollars. N614DM is the one airplane in the fleet that lets you buy the hard part first and write the easy part yourself. The hard part is already done and it cannot be bought later at any price: 2,090 hours since new, 410 hours since a major overhaul by Certified Engines, an overhauled turbocharger and a #1 cylinder IRAN completed in June 2026, a fresh February 2026 annual, and a life spent hangared. Around that sits the equipment that makes a turbocharged single actually useful in the high teens — 300-horsepower TIO-540, PiperAire air conditioning, a 50 cubic foot six-place oxygen system, Reiff preheat, standby battery, and 1,036 pounds of useful load in six seats with deluxe leather, a writing desk, and a refreshment console. The panel is Avidyne FlightMax Entegra glass with EMAX engine and fuel management, TAS600 active traffic, L3 WX-500 Stormscope, CMAX charts, and an S-TEC 55X with flight director, altitude and rate preselect, and GPSS. That is a complete situational-awareness airplane, not a project. What it does not have is a current-production navigator, and that is precisely the opportunity. The market is currently paying a $40,000 to $60,000 premium for touchscreen navigators on this airframe — which is very nearly what the upgrade costs. This is that rare avionics decision a buyer gets back. Spend your money on the boxes you want. Or if your mission doesn’t require the current era WAAS navigators then fly it as is and you really are not sacrificing any utility.
