Founded by Lance Neibauer in 1981, Lancair International as a leading U.S. manufacturer of general aviation composite aircraft kits based in Redmond, Oregon, for more than 30 years. In 2017, the company sold the designs and intellectual property for its Lancair 200 through 360, IV, IVP, IVPT, ES, ESP, Legacy, and other older models to Mark and Conrad Huffstutler. The Huffstutlers settled their operations to Uvalde, Texas, where their company now provides support, parts, technical assistance, maintenance, repairs, inspections, and other services for older Lancair aircraft.

As part of the 2017 sale, the previous Lancair International owners retained the production rights to the Lancair Evolution model and changed their company’s name to Evolution Aircraft. The company remains in Redmond and offers single-engine, four-place, pressurized Evolution aircraft via Turbine 850, Turbine 750, and Turbine 550 models and a Piston 350 model.

Evolution Aircraft states that the Evolution models are the first “digital kit” aircraft an owner-builder assembles. Following a two-week build program conducted in Redmond to structurally complete the airframe, owners can access Evolution’s professional builder assist centers for assistance with completion. Lancair International, meanwhile, is working on the first version of a MAKO high-performance kit aircraft available in Standard and Turbo versions. It also provides a Builder’s Assist Program.
