One of the most iconic names in the luxury and business jet sector, Learjet was founded by William Lear in 1960 as the Swiss American Aviation Corporation. While Lear headquartered the company in Switzerland early on, it was moved to Wichita, Kansas, in 1962 where it still is based.

In 1963, the Learjet 23, considered the world’s first business jet, made its maiden flight. The following year, the first production model of the Learjet 23 was delivered and the company was renamed Lear Jet Corporation. In 1990, Learjet was acquired by Bombardier, a Montreal, Canada-based manufacturer that also produces the Challenger series of medium business jets; Global series of large business jets; and the C, CRJ, and Q Series of commercial aircraft.

Bombardier currently produces the Learjet 70 and Learjet 75 business jets. The seven-passenger Learjet 70 powers on TFE731-40BR Honeywell engines and has a maximum range of 2,060 NM. The Learjet 75 is a nine-passenger light jet touted as the only business jet in its class to include an eight-seat double-club configuration, flat floor throughout the cabin, and forward pocket door for additional cabin quietness. In June 2017, Bombardier delivered the 100th Learjet 75, which also marked delivery of the 3,000th Learjet.
