TAROM Inks Deal With Boeing For Five 737 MAX 8 Aircraft
Romania’s national carrier TAROM has signed an order valued at $586 million for five single-aisle Boeing 737 MAX 8 airplanes. Boeing says TAROM will also buy a landing gear exchange program from Boeing Global Services, and will outfit its fleet of Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft with the online Maintenance Performance Toolbox technical documentation management solution aimed at helping crews perform and record repairs efficiently.
New Markets
Established in 1954 and a member of the International Air Transport Association since 1993, TAROM operates a 25-aircraft fleet that supports airline services throughout Romania, Europe, and the Middle East. The carrier serves 50-plus destinations, as well as destinations that the company’s code-share partners operate.
TAROM Airlines CEO Wolff Werner-Wilhelm describes TAROM’s excitement in upgrading its fleet and forging partnerships that will benefit its customers: “The 737 MAX will provide our customers with exceptional performance, reliability, and efficiency with an extended range that will enable us to better serve our current routes and open new markets,” he says. “This new acquisition represents a true statement of change for TAROM."
To The MAX
With 4,600 orders placed from 100 global customers, Boeing claims the 737 MAX is its fastest-selling aircraft ever. Besides the 210-seat 737 MAX 8, the 737 MAX family includes the 737 MAX 7 (172 seats), 737 MAX 9 (220 seats), and 737 MAX 10 (230 seats) that’s set for introduction around 2020. The entire lineup features the latest CFM International LEAP-1B engines, Advanced Technology winglets, and the Boeing Sky Interior, which offers larger overhead bins and other comfort-related features.
