Royal Australian Air Force Receives First Of Three Dassault Falcon 7X Aircraft

Dassault Aviation says the Australian aviation market has been a key one for the company since 1967 when it entered the Falcon 20 business jet into commercial service there. Fast-forward to 2019 and Australia and the Asia-Pacific region at large now have 120-plus Falcon aircraft in service, including more than 50 Falcon 7X tri-jets in use with public and private operators. In late April, the Commonwealth of Australia added to Dassault’s Asia-Pacific fleet total by taking delivery of the first of three Falcon 7Xs that the Royal Australian Air Force will use for government VIP service.

Serving Australia

In a statement, Dassault says it expects to deliver the other two Falcon 7Xs to the RAAF in upcoming months. Among other abilities, the aircraft will provide VIPs “seamless access to high-speed broadband data anywhere in the world,” Dassault says.

Eric Trappier, Dassault Aviation chairman and CEO, noted the decades of successful operations that Dassault aircraft—from the Mirage III fighter to the Falcon 900 business jet—has provided the RAAF. In addition to the Falcon 20 that the RAAF entered into service in 1967 and used for 22 years, the military unit maintained a fleet of five Falcon 900s through the early 2000s.

In addition to the Falcon 7X, Dassault produces the Falcon 8X and 900LX tri-jet and Falcon 2000LX and 2000S twin-jet business jet models. The company plans to enter its new ultra-wide-body Falcon 6X into service in 2022. The Falcon 7X, with its 5,950-nautical-mile (11,000-kilometer) range, can fly nonstop from Canberra to any Asian destination and can handle short and challenging runways and various climates. Since Dassault introduced the jet 10-plus years ago, it has delivered more than 280 7Xs worldwide.
