Saudi Arabian Airlines Takes Its First Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner Delivery
Saudi Arabian Airlines, or SAUDIA, took delivery of its first Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner commercial jet in late September. SAUDIA, a Boeing partner for 75-plus years, already had 13 Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners and 33 Boeing 777-300ER (Extended Range) aircraft in its fleet. His Excellency Eng. Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, SAUDIA director general, says the 787-10 addition will further support the airline’s future network-growth plans.
“Unmatched Fuel Efficiency”
The 787-10 Dreamliner is a member of a three-jet Dreamliner lineup that also includes the 248-seat (two-class configuration) 787-8 and 296-seat 787-9. At roughly 224 feet (68 meters) long, the 336-seat 787-10 Dreamliner is about an 18-foot (5.5-meter) extension of the 787-9. The 787-9, however, provides a 7,530-nautical mile (13,950-kilometer) range to the 787-10’s 6,345-nautical mile (11,750-kilometer) range, which Boeing says still enables the 787-10 to support more than 95% of the world’s twin-aisle routes. All the Dreamliners use GEnx-1B / Trent 1000 engines.
The 787-10, which first flew in 2017, will provide SAUDIA “unmatched fuel efficiency” that will help open new routes and “achieve significant fuel savings and emission reduction,” says Ihssane Mounir, Boeing senior vice president of commercial sales and marketing. Boeing claims the 787-10 provides 25% greater fuel per seat and less emissions than planes it replaces. Overall, Boeing has delivered 30-plus 787-10 Dreamliners to seven operators since the jet entered service in 2018. The 787 Dreamliner family overall has helped open 235-plus new point-to-point routes and saved more than 40 billion pounds of fuel since 2011, Boeing says.
